BackBox is an Open Source Linux distribution which aims to provides the best penetration testing, incident response and computer forensics applications in a user-friendly desktop distribuiton. It is based on Ubuntu 14.04 with Xfce as a default window manager. Kernel version is updated to 4.2 and Ruby version to 2.2. Tools which are updated are beef, dirsearch, metasploit, openvas, setoolkit, volatility, wpscan, wxhexeditor, yara, etc.

10 GB of disk space for installation
Graphics card capable of 800×600 resolution
DVD-ROM drive or USB port (3 GB)

It is based on Ubuntu so a vast number of applications can be installed and used easily. BackBox is a nice place for beginners to start because it is easier than Kali Linux to start because Kali is based on Debian and for beginner it is difficult to use. Tor is by default install which is good foanonimity and security on Internet. LibreOffice and Gimp are installed too. Overall its a nice distro to start with for pentesting.
